ArcGIS Explorer used in Reading / Writing Workshop here at LPHS!
Ms. Khan and Mr. Herranz collaborated on using ArcGIS Explorer to create maps of the Middle East relating to the book The Kite Runner. Students first filled out and colored a blank map of the region that needed country names and capitals for 32 nations. They then outlined the countries in different colors. Next, they researched five details about each, as well as found their flags. Last, students took this information and created digital maps using ArcGIS Explorer software.

MuseScore used in Music Composition and Theory here at LPHS!
Picture
Mr. Castleberry and Mr. Herranz collaborated on utilizing MuseScore (MuseScore.org) music composition and scoring software for the Music Theory class. Using a sheet music sample, students first learned how to place notes and other music theory elements into their document. As they work, students can listen to their musical parts. They then added 4 additional instruments and "voices" to create a more complete musical piece.

Teacher Collaborations: Environmental Science and Library

Earth Week
May 10-14
Teachers: Ms. Chowanec, Ms. Gamson, and Mr. Herranz

Description: In the spirit of Earth Day (April 22), the LPHS Library will host Earth Week from May 10-13, 2011 and will include activities developed by both faculty and students to raise awareness about environmental issues and celebrate the beauty of our earth. Students in Ms. Chowanec's AP Environmental Science Class developed poster boards and online activities that other students could earn extra credit points by completing them in the Library. Hand out activities made in the Library involved crossword puzzles, fill in the blanks, and samples of the US Postal Service's Go Green postage stamps as helpful clues in the activities.
